The South African Cult Classic e’Lollipop was nearly banned under the apartheid government for its unapologetic interracial themes. The production also experienced distribution difficulties in South Africa in certain “white” cinemas for the same reason. Notwithstanding such difficulties, e’Lollipop became one of the highest grossing films in South Africa and attracted the largest black audience during the 1976-9 period. Ma-Afrika’s commitment to all South Africans however insured that all audiences could enjoy the motion picture across the country when he supported that use of mobile units and 16mm distribution through schools and municipal halls.

e’Lollipop is being re-released due to overwhelming demand by South African audiences.
